Case Study

IT Management

Initial situation/Preliminary considerations

A construction supplier with branches in more than 40 countries is looking for a Head of Application Management who will also represent the CIO and be responsible for seven employees.

Our client works with different versions of the ProALPHA midmarket ERP system. The most important strategic task of the future job holder is to further develop this system, integrate it more closely and adapt it to the needs of the individual branches, while at the same time standardizing it overall. He or she should therefore have an eye for current processes in particular and establish new ERP processes accordingly.

Implementation/Project process

As our client is based in northern Germany, the target company list contains a total of 128 companies from this region that also use ProALPHA. These are joined by larger companies with complex ERP processes and IT system houses.

Our team then identifies both IT managers and the employees responsible for ERP systems. Although larger companies also use systems such as SAP, Oracle or Sage, our consultants also approach candidates from such companies - because here, too, the processes are almost identical and the technology is at least similar.

Nevertheless, the project proves to be very challenging, as only a few candidates show interest due to the special ERP system.

Many are concerned that they do not have the necessary experience or that they will become too specialized when they take up the new position.

Nevertheless, we manage to present two suitable candidates to the client at the first attempt. Our client offers a contract to one of them - he comes from the region and works for a subsidiary of a large DAX company. The candidate promises to sign it, but agrees to check the documents again in detail after a longer planned vacation. On his return, he unexpectedly cancels and refers to new challenges at his previous employer to which he would like to devote himself.

Our team then resumes the search and eventually finds two new candidates. Our consultants also find another candidate through their personal networks: The candidate had most recently headed up the IT department of a large German logistics company in France, but was now looking for a position in Germany for personal reasons. A direct hit, as our client ended up hiring this candidate.
